Mouments of bad and good people are being polished everywhere - why this cycle - at first glance - does the opposite.
The work takes the 500th year after the first circumnavigation of the world by one of the Magellan's ships in 1522 as an opportunity to tke a look at the beginnings of Europe's colonial past.
Superficially a collection of scuptures of well-known people, it is, however, an irritation. Ten sculptures, ten stories, some of them are doomed to be represented.Their appearance is in the context of the embarrassment of convicted wrongdoers.
Unpleasant for them: the victims are there too. What are Fugger and Emperor Charles V. thinking at the sight of Gaismair and a Tyrolean miner? Patagonians - Selk'nams, were literally shot down like animals by a European, the name is known, as late as 1886 (Selk'nam-Wikipedia) - and islanders form the centre of the row, swapping places at the base of the monument.
On the walls, ideograms in black and white. In five parts, the unplanned first route around the globe, stations of an expedition in a six-pack and the destination of desire, the Moluccas, as large-format metaphors of five spice islands. All in the technique ash and coal on aluminium.
Magellan's ships made of aluminium, all armed, ploughing their way along the concept of Dir. Dr. Leo Andergassen, through a transcendent blue.
